Bodywork and Massage: Essential to your performance

Massage therapy can be used to treat both physical/sport rehab and mental emotional issues including PTSD.  In Aspen it seems that everyone has a hot tub and knows how helpful it is post workout and like that therapy massage can be used as often. Whether you want a soft flowing massage for relaxation or deep tissue where you might be in discomfort while receiving the treatment, massage works.

Most pro athletes use some sort of massage therapy for their recovery. Though you may not be a pro you ski hard, ride hard, and hike to top of the world on so may of Aspen’s integrative trails, why not recover fully to do what you love so much and live the Aspen lifestyle forever? Even once a week for 90 minute a massage helps promote blood flow to muscles extensively used and that are chronically tight. The blood flow brought about by massage is like the UPS of the body, it’s a delivery system bring O2 and nutrients helping not only to heal damaged cells but promote growth of new cells. As the fascia (fibrous muscle covering, like shrink wrap) around the muscles is opened up it allows osmosis to occur and for waste products stuck deep within the muscle to be released and red blood cells in to promote the healing.  When used on a weekly or even daily basis, the muscles can be unstuck or untwisted far more easily. When used less often it still is of some use but the therapist will not be able to go as deeply into the muscles and healing will not be as profound.

Not only can regular massage help the muscles with malleability and blood flow for sport but it can help move lymph fluid through the body and help to treat swelling in the feet at night. With the correct type of touch massage can aid in moving through grief. The body is a dense representation of your thoughts and your issues are in the tissues. As a clinician for over 25 years my expertise has led me to find that the psychosomatically we are physically what we think. As relaxation occurs the brain sends the entire body the same message, all is well! Each cell door opens allowing for nutrient uptake and on the cellular level healing occurs in turn easing the mind of its afflictions.

I’ve had the benefit of each mental and physical release from therapeutic massage and so to have thousands of my clients. Finding the right therapist for you is so important in order to feel safe and get the correct therapy you need. As I have traveled through out the world when I am on the road I try out local therapists in hope of healing myself and expanding my craft. Many of the small businesses or independent therapists are the way to go, which is how these talented people prosper and the corporate massage businesses are watered down with staff that are over worked and unenthusiastic. Aspen is a small town, so word of mouth can often help you find the wonderful and talented therapists to choose from.

As part of the concierge experience here at Aspen Integrative Health, bodywork and massage is an important part of the program. Our clients get to experience freedom of movement as well an ease and flow in their bodies like they’ve never experienced before! It’s all part of our commitment to helping you in mind, body and spirit.
